Description
For this project we were given three options to base our project off of:
Option 1: New & Improved: We generally were to hypothetically improve a consumer product that plays an important role in your life by altering the elements, compounds, bonding or micro structure that determines its properties. With this information to write a letter to the product design division of the company that makes the product.
Option 2: The future of materials: Inform the public about a new innovative material or process by researching the material or process and then writing a magazine article about it. It was to explain the chemistry of the new material or process, how it was developed, what its possible applications are in society, and anything else interesting about it.
Option 3: How Materials Shaped the Course of History: Inform people about how a particular element, compound, material or process shaped the course of history by writing a magazine article. This should explain the chemistry of the material or process, how it was made/developed, how the substance influenced history and anything else interesting.

Reflection
For my article I played off of Option 3 and just explained the importance of paying attention to what you are putting into your diesel vehicle, the differences between diesel 1 and 2, and how chemically they are useful.
How has the chemistry of materials shaped our past and present and how may it shape our future?
We are now able to have a more economically smart vehicle as well as a more environment friendly one. We will slowly be able to work on them to make them even more environment friendly.
How does the chemical structure of a material determine its properties?
For example the alkane chains make the material (diesel) have different melting points and the longer the chains are make the material a liquid at room temperature. We focus on this so that our fuel does not freeze up during cold weather.
