First Semester:
Humanities is a class that is a combination of English as well as Social Studies (or History). This year the Junior Humanities teacher is Ashley Carruth. She has an amazing view on things and makes the class very enjoyable. We first started our class on working on Justice and Morality. We all have different views of what "justice" is and this is reflected by our morals. We focused on Lawrence Kohlberg's Stages of Moral Development which explained how people change their morals and look at things differently as they get older. This is explained more in depth on my Moral Development Essay page.
We then moved onto the main project of this subject which was our Morality and Politics of Justice exhibition project. During this project we were to pick a relavent political issue and make a decision on which side to vote for and make that decision, not because of what political side we were on but because it is morally correct to do. This project also has its own page called Morality and Politics of Justice.
We then moved onto a subject towards World War II and began reading the book Snow Falling on Cedars. This was a historical fiction book that focused on a murder trial and showed the racism of the time. A man convicted of murder because he was Japanese. This all is leading up to the mock trial.......
